Located 90 miles from three metro areas: Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Wichita, Ponca City was once a small, one-company town with the headquarters of Conoco Oil Company. In the 1990s, the city was forced to re-invent itself once the area was impacted by major downsizing at Conoco. Ponca City has since pursued successful workforce, marketing, and entrepreneurship strategies for economic diversification of its economic base into new industries such as information technology, distribution, advanced manufacturing, research and corporate facilities.
