The Sustainable Working Waterfront Toolkit is a suite of online tools designed to help coastal communities develop and implement policies that support business and job growth. It was created by the Island Institute of Rockland, Maine, with funding from EDA. The Institute partnered with the National Working Waterfront Network, a nationwide network of private- and public-sector organizations that includes municipalities, state and federal agencies, nonprofits, universities, NOAA Sea Grant programs, businesses, industry associations, and individuals dedicated to supporting and enhancing the nation’s waterfronts and waterways. The website has a number of case studies on how communities that are dependent on water industries and waterfronts have diversified, and various components of the ecosystem that are required to move forward are also identified.
