The primary mission of the Federal Emergency Management Agency is to reduce the loss of life and property and protect the Nation terrorism, and other man-made disasters, by leading and supporting the Nation in a risk comprehensive emergency management system of preparedness, protection, response, recovery, and mitigation. Direct assistance is available to individuals, families and businesses in areas covered by a disaster declaration where property has been damaged or destroyed and whose losses are not covered by insurance. Funding is meant to help with critical expenses that cannot be covered in other ways, and is not intended to restore damaged property to its condition before the disaster. FEMA’s free online courses provide an interactive web-based educational experience. The Introduction to Public-Private Partnerships course provides an introduction to the role of public-private partnerships in disaster preparedness and planning.
