Webinar Recording: Establishing a 501c3 for Economic Development & Recovery

Tags | Community Resilience | News & Resources

On March 13th, 2014, IEDC held the Establishing a 501c3 for Economic Development & Recovery webinar. In communities that have demonstrated resiliency in facing a major crisis, economic developers have often pointed to the creation of a structure to support the recovery process and to respond to the vast rebuilding challenges. From Joplin's 2011 tornado to Southern California after the Northridge earthquake, community and business leaders have found it is important to establish an IRC 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for economic development and recovery purposes. Whether created before or after a crisis, these tax-exempt organizations have played a direct role in guiding community resources, including those from the private sector, towards long-term economic recovery. In this webinar, attendees will learn the critical steps for creating a 501(c)(3) economic development organization, including advice on the IRS application process.   Click here to download the webinar recording, and here to download the presentation.
