On March 10,  11,  and May 12, 2015, the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) Research Foundation and the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) hosted training workshops in Wilmington, NC, Conway, SC, and Leland, NC titled Keeping Our Businesses Strong: Strategies for Business Continuity in the Face of Disasters.  These workshops brought together representatives of regional councils, small and large businesses, economic development organizations, local governments, and others to learn about ways to plan for natural disasters, minimize their economic impacts, and be ready to reopen quickly next time an unforeseen event occurs.
These free workshops included:
  • An overview of business continuity planning and the key steps necessary to prepare a business for a disruption;
  • Interactive scenario exercises and discussions that helped participants identify vulnerabilities and strategies to build the resilience of their businesses and organizations;
  • Access to national experts on business continuity planning;
  • An easy-to-use toolkit to help participants prepare continuity plans; and
  • Opportunities for selected participants to work one-on-one with experts to address their unique challenges.
