Upcoming NADO Research Foundation Webinar: The Regional Role in Disaster Preparedness

The NADO Research Foundation invites you to join us on August 13 from 2 – 3 p.m. ET for our webinar, “The Regional Role in Disaster Preparedness.”  Neighboring cities, towns, and counties often face the same natural hazards and risks, and, as a result, would benefit from coordinated mitigation and preparedness strategies.  Moreover, local governments—especially in smaller communities and rural areas—often lack the staff capacity, resources, and technical expertise to plan for natural disasters and make policy, capital improvement, and economic development decisions that increase their resilience. For these reasons, regional development organizations (RDOs) are critical partners in disaster preparedness.  This webinar will feature speakers from two RDOs that have been leaders in disaster preparedness efforts within their respective regions.  Margo Moehring with the Regional Community Institute of Northeast Florida, Inc. will share an innovative model for engaging the business community and providing regional leadership on actionable preparedness activities, and Allison Beasley with the Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District will discuss how communities on the Gulf Coast are becoming more resilient by integrating hazard mitigation principles into local comprehensive plans.  Click here to learn more and to register for the webinar.
