Black and Latino people are three times as likely to contract the virus and two times as likely to die from it.

COVID-19 has caused massive lay-offs and furloughing across the country, but the pandemic has also created shortages and employment opportunities that did not exist before. Several cities and municipalities around the country are trying to solve these two issues by creating  a ‘COVID Corps.'

Whether it is spreading awareness on social issues, ensuring corporate responsibility, or keeping local governments in check, young people have made it their duty to be as politically and socially involved as possible. It is now up to economic developers to start listening to young people so their communities can attract the workforce it needs for innovation and sustainability. 

On June 29, IEDC hosted a webinar session for economic developers to share insights on ways to amplify and direct funds toward investment in small businesses. The panel offered examples from loans, grant programs, and the management of CARES Act funding in their respective communities.
