IEDC held a webinar on April 28, 2015 from 2:30-4:00 titled Bolstering Workforce - Adapting to Changing Economic Landscapes. After a disaster, your workforce landscape may be radically changed. A few residents will not not return, others may come to assist with recovery and decide to stay. Some businesses will stay shuttered indefinitely; others will explore new growth opportunities.This web seminar explored strategies and resources to address changing workforce needs after a disaster.

Lessons from this webinar included:
  • Strategies on adjusting to a change in supply and demand of workers,
  • Resource suggestions to assist a changed workforce,
  • Tips and techniques to identify which workforce needs will exist after a disaster.

Mike Fox Executive Director, Plainview/Hale County Economic Development Corporation, Plainview, TX With a decade of experience in the financial industry and 30 years in radio broadcasting, local banker Mike Fox took the reins of the Plainview/Hale County Economic Development Corporation as its new executive director, effective Sept. 2, 2014. A West Texas native, Fox has been associated with Wells Fargo Bank in Plainview since September 2002. Initially serving as a business sales officer, for the past decade he was a business relationship manager for Wells Fargo in Plainview.   As a commercial loan officer at Wells Fargo, Fox completed commercial credit courses from Wells Fargo Business Banking University. Before entering the banking community, Fox was involved in radio broadcasting for 30 years. He managed radio stations in Amarillo for 18 years before moving to Plainview in 1988 and purchasing the local radio stations. He is active in the Plainview Lions Club, Plainview Chamber of Commerce, Plainview Area United Way and First United Methodist Church. Fox has served on the PHCEDC board since 2001and was its board president in 2007-09.

Steven Perdia General Manager, Strategy and Planning, Canterbury Development Corporation, Christchurch, New Zealand

Steven Perdia is the GM of Strategy and Planning for Canterbury Development Corporation, Christchurch’s economic development agency. His key accountabilities include the development of the Christchurch Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) which sets out a vision of growth for Christchurch until 2031. He also worked with CERA on their Economic Recovery Plan. His team publishes economic research and monitoring for local and central government agencies and the private sector. The research Centres of Expertise focus on regional economies, workforce, infrastructure and technological change. He is also responsible for CDC’s Project Management Office, Strategy, Marketing and Communications functions.
