Developing Coastal Tourism as an Economic Driver in the Houston-Galveston Region

Tags | Tourism Recovery

This 2011 report of Developing Coastal Tourism as an Economic Driver provides recommendations and strategies to four counties in southeast Texas that have been impacted by Hurricane Ike. The goal of this technical assistance is in revitalizing the tourism industry. Counties covered by the technical assistance include Matagorda, Brazoria, Galveston and Chambers. This report provides an overview of key opportunities and challenges, and offers key action steps the community should consider to further develop the regional coastal tourism industry. IEDC worked in partnership with the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) for this project. This report is possible because the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) was retained by the U.S. Econommic Devlopment Administration (EDA) (a bureau within the U.S. Department of Commerce) to provide technical assistance in economic development to Texas and Louisiana communities impacted by Hurricane Ike.
