Shortly after the events in the Gulf, IEDC co-sponsored the Gulf Coast Business Reinvestment Forum with the US Chamber of Commerce. The Forum was developed in partnership with the states of Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. More than 130 economic development, business and policy leaders were invited to create strategies to enhance the position of the Gulf Coast on the federal legislative agenda and provide a set of recommendations to serve as an economic recovery and development agenda for reinvestment. Their recommendations, and the messages that came out of the Forum, have been fundamental in the region’s on-going efforts to access resources and implement needed recovery programs.
